John "Jack" Walkington (birth registered April→June 1909 (age 102–103) in Leeds district[1]) is an English former professional rugby league footballer of the 1920s, '30s and '40s who at representative level has played for England, and at club level for Hunslet, playing at Fullback, i.e. number 1.

International honours

Jack Walkington won caps for England while at Hunslet in 1930 against Other Nations, in 1931 against Wales, in 1938 against Wales, and in 1944 against Wales.[2]

Rugby Football League Championship final appearances

Jack Walkington played and scored a drop goal in Hunslet's 8-2 victory over Leeds in the 1937-38 Rugby Football League Championship final at Elland Road on 30 April 1938.[3]

Club career

Jack Walkington made his début for Hunslet against Halifax on 19 March 1927, he scored 11-goals and 1-try for 25-points against Featherstone Rovers on 29 April 1931, and scored 119-goals in the Yorkshire League winning 1931–32 Northern Rugby Football League season. During Jack Walkington's time at Hunslet, they were losing finalists in three Yorkshire Cup finals, the 7-13 defeat to Hull Kingston Rovers in the 1929–30 Northern Rugby Football League season, the 2-4 defeat to Huddersfield in the 1931–32 Northern Rugby Football League season, and the 3-14 (3-12 and 0-2) aggregate defeat to Halifax in the 1944–45 War Emergency Leagues season.

Testimonial match

Jack Walkington's Testimonial match at Hunslet took place against Hull Kingston Rovers in 1 January 1938.
